Qualifications
Qualifications for Bareboat Chartering include certification by the Charterer that he/she and crew have adequate knowledge of seamanship, piloting, navigation, and rules of the road. A Charterer not meeting these qualifications, at the discretion of an Agent of Chesapeake Yacht Charters, Inc., must have an instructor on board, selected by the Agent until the Charterer is judged competent in handling the vessel.

Cancellations
If you find it necessary to cancel your charter, the following guidelines apply: Outside of 45 days before the charter start date, a $300 fee will apply and the balance of your 50% deposit will be refunded. Cancellation of 45 days or less before the charter start date, no monies will be refunded unless we are able to rebook another charter on the same boat for the same dates at which time refund of monies paid to date less a $300 rebooking fee will apply. No refunds will be given due to voluntary termination of the charter, “no shows”, or inclement weather. In the event that a “named storm” is due to affect the cruising area, all processing fees will be waived and the charter rescheduled. Any change in reservation may be subject to a $75/processing fee.

Checkouts
Checkouts are informative, thorough, and included in your charter fee. The charterer will be given specific instructions on the proper operation of the yacht they are chartering first at dockside and will then depart for an additional checkout under way going through different points of sail, navigation, anchoring, motoring and docking. Please allow 2 hours in your schedule for this checkout procedure. This quality time allows the charterer and crew to become familiar with the idiosyncrasies of their specific yacht. The Captain of the charter must be able to demonstrate that he/she is able to direct his/her crew and is competent in safely handling the vessel.

Security Deposits
Security Deposits vary for each yacht based upon the deductible amount of the yachts’ insurance, which is usually 1-2% of the hull value. The minimum security deposit is $500 and may be paid either by personal check 10 days in advance of your charter or at boarding by cash, cashiers check, traveler’s checks, money orders or Mastercard/Visa or Discover. All security deposits will be deposited into an escrow account and returned to the charterer within seven workdays from the last day of the charter less the cost of items lost, damages, fuel not replaced, pump-out fees, clean-up fees, etc., if any. If there is damage or loss, the an approximate amount for repairs or replacements will be withheld from the security deposit return for such time required to restore the yacht and her equipment back to prior charter status and the actual replacement value or repair costs are confirmed.

Taxes
Taxes are not included in our rates. Currently we are required to collect a 5% State sales tax plus a 5% County Amusement Tax on the base charter fee.

Trip Cancellation/Interruption Coverage
We strongly suggest the purchase of Trip Insurance to protect your deposit and subsequent payments if you have to cancel due to death, illness or injury to anyone in your group or immediate family. Information is available from our office.

Insurance
Insurance is included in the charter fee. All yachts are fully insured with a damage deductible amount based upon 1-2% of the hull value. Charterers are responsible for any difference between the amount of the Security Deposit collected and the 1-2% deductible amount, if any. All yachts are restricted under insurance regulations for use and operation in the Chesapeake Bay.
